Educational PurposePsychology is a field of study that scientifically research minds and behaviors of human beings so it is located in the point of intersection between Natural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences. Especially Psychology is one of the most basic and representative field of study amongst behavioral science, which is a field of study that forms the center of anthropology. In order to understand the minds and behaviors of human beings, psychology adopts research method of scientific research methodology that are based on the empiricism. In detail, experiment, psychological testing, field observation, research study and case study are practically used as psychology research method. As we face increase of social interests on psychological problems and wellbeing of individuals, who are situated in the complex society on the present day, by keeping up with scientific research on the minds and behaviors of human beings, the role of psychology is becoming important day by day since it is the basis of all other studies that contribute towards the improvement of human understanding.
Specialization of EducationDepartment of Psychology was first established in year 2006, but the department made rapid growth and was chosen as the ‘outstanding department’ from ‘2011 Korea JoongAng Daily National University College Evaluation’. Also newly created master’s degree program at graduate school, which has shown high competition rate every year. Department of Psychology at Sogang University plans development that compromise various subspecialty of psychology. Especially counseling/clinical areas are the concentrated fields to nurture students. The department holds distinguished faculties from counseling/clinical areas and high level of counseling practice facilities. Also carry out counseling education and practical training in collaboration with ‘Student Life Counseling Center’ at Sogang University.
