This cluster investigates the impacts of colonialism on the societies and economies of Southeast Asia with a focus on the formation of plural societies. It examines colonial policies that were implemented in the arenas of economy, religion, and education in a comparative scope where individual Southeast Asian colonies were covered. Furthermore, the cluster explores how migrations and subsequent formation of plural societies diversified ethnic and cultural mosaic of Southeast Asia.
