Jeon Kyung Jin

Jeon Kyung Jin, a PhD Candidate in Southeast Asian Studies, aims to explore how governmental objectives under the "Developmental State" paradigm have influenced technological adaptations in Maritime Southeast Asia. Specifically, he seeks to investigate the impact of top-down technological initiatives on the institutionalization of new technologies within the Retail Payment System framework and their contributions to shaping its historical context. By focusing on the proactive adoption and institutionalization of technological advancements, rather than solely emphasizing the development of information technology in the three countries, his research aims to provide insight into the role of governmental policies and strategies in driving technological progress and integration within the region, taking into account the geographical, temporal, and socio-cultural constraints of each country.

After graduating from the Ho Chi Minh City Open University with a B.A. in Southeast Asian Studies, I continued with my M.A. in Asian Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies) at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNUHCM-USSH). After finishing my M.A., I worked as a researcher in the International Cooperation Department of the Southern Institute of Social Sciences (SISS-VASS). My research focuses on the South of Vietnam and foreign cooperation projects, especially focusing on Korean-Vietnamese multicultural families in Vietnam.

In 2020, I was admitted to the doctoral program at the Sogang Institute for East Asian Studies at Sogang University through the 'Global Korea Scholarship (GKS)', and I continue studying Southeast Asian studies to this day. My current Ph.D. topic focuses on “Vietnamese-Korean multicultural families in Vietnam and Korea (policies, traditional cultural education, legal procedures, cultural integration, etc.)”. I am interested in providing support at the social welfare level for Vietnamese women who marry Korean men and return home with their hybrid children after divorce (policies to support social reintegration, such as supporting divorce procedures, issuance of birth certificates, local school admission procedures for hybrid children, etc.).
